You feel their hand wrapping around your finger, a touch that awakens the wonderful feeling of parenthood. As you come home battered and bruised through the chaos of life, when you lean over the cot to see them sleeping peacefully, it’s all worthwhile. Their giggle lights your day, and their adorable tantrums challenge you to improve. But what tops it all off is the beautiful realization that you brought life to this world with the grace of God.
Such are the joys of being blessed with a child in your life.
However, the twists and turns one encounters driving down life’s highway are unprecedented. Adversity strikes when you least expect it.
The cruel truth is that just as life presents you with happiness, it can easily be taken away.
It’s difficult to fathom the pain a parent would feel seeing an empty cot in their children’s room, knowing they will never see them again.
You’d feel angry, distraught, sad, and sorry that you couldn’t do more.
Can we find catharsis through the pain?
Author Russ Myers delves deep into his experience of losing his daughter, who was prematurely born and had physical complications. She passed away two months after she was born. Broken-hearted but moving forward with courage, Myers quotes, “God was carrying me on his shoulders through the storm.”
When there was no hope to be found, Russ turned toward the Word of God, looking for answers to the questions that keep us up at night as believers and those who have, especially, lost a loved one.
Questions such as, “What is God’s will for us?” and “Do babies who die, aborted, or miscarried go to Heaven?”
If you have gone through such a tragedy and are grieving, find solace in knowing that your child is in the arms of Jesus. As it is said:
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14
