ANAMA, Bahrain – Many weeks passed at sea when most of young Americans shaded their army dresses for baseball caps and T-shirts and then poured forth from the principal gates of the closely surrounded by U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet base, the main camp base for U.S. naval forces withinside the Middle East.
The plane carrier USS Abraham Lincoln had docked in Bahrain, a small Arab island country at the southwestern corner of the Persian Gulf. For America’s army organized back in Washington, the sailors presented a long confronting bedrock of U.S. national security: one of the Pentagon’s hundreds of foot holders all around the nation.
