The single-shot covid vaccine of Johnson & Johnson earned approval by US regulators. The J&J vaccine is the third vaccine that the country approves.

The vaccine is supposed to be a cost-effective choice for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. The vaccine can be stored in a refrigerator instead of a freezer.

The findings of the trials state that the jab is preventing severe illness but is after including moderate cases; it is only 66% effective.

The vaccine is an advancement of J&J’s Janssen Pharmaceutica division.

The company is now on an agreement to provide 100 million vaccine doses to the US. The company will be expecting to deliver the targeted vaccine doses by the end of June. Moreover, the first doses could be available to the US’s citizens by next week.

The UK, Canada, and the EU together have ordered the company’s vaccine doses. Additionally, through the Covax scheme, around 500 million doses are ordered to supply them to the developing nations.

The company’s vaccine is likely to receive approval from the European Medicines Agency in early March following its speedy rollout. The French Industry Minister, Agnès Pannier Runacher, said this in a statement on Sunday.

All three of them are advisable for taking the shots.

President Biden hailing it, said it is exciting news for all Americans and a new development. But he also said warning; the fight is far from over.

He added that though the vaccine is good news to all, taking the essential precaution is still necessary. Thus, he urges all his citizens to frequently wash their hands, maintain social distancing, and wear a mask.

President Biden’s warning said that situations are likely to worsen with the spread of the new variants, as he has already said. Also, this can reverse the current improvement.

On Sunday, the chief medical advisor, Anthony Fauci, advised people to take the J&J shots when asked about their effectiveness. Compared to the other two approved vaccines, Dr Fauci said all three vaccines are good. Adding that people should take what is available to them. If one is in a place where the J&J is available, that’s the one for them; they need to take it. Also that he would take the vaccine.

After an external committee of experts backed the vaccine unanimously on Friday, J&J received its authorization from the FDA.

The trial conducted in Brazil, South Africa, and the US showed more than 85% effectiveness on a severe illness. Additionally, being 66 per cent effective on including moderate cases.

Others who have ordered the Vaccine jab.

  • The UK- 30 million doses
  • Covax nations- 500 million doses
  • EU- 200 million doses
  • Canada- 38 million doses
