A Baptist cleric in Missouri has gone on vacation after a reaction over the comment he made on women’s appearances.
Pastor Stewart Allen Clark drew scorn for a homily aiding advice to wives. This advice, he said, would stop their spouses from becoming distracted by other women.
The sermon involved comments on Melania Trump, whom he named the epic trophy wife of all time.
The pastor’s General Baptist group has rebuked him for his comments.
His February sermon is a 22-minute video shared on Facebook. The video there has been viewed thousands of time.
In it, he is seen using a well known online meme of a distracted boyfriend. He used the meme to tell women not to give him a reason to be looking around.
He tells churchgoers that it is vital for men to have a beautiful woman on their arm. Asking the crowd why is it so often that women, after they get married, let themselves go?
Further adding that not every woman can be the epic trophy wife of all time, like Melania Trump. He said he is not saying that at all, while the former First Lady’s image appears on the screen behind him.
Most women cannot be trophy wives, but you know, maybe they are a participation trophy, the pastor adds.
Pastor Clark then criticises women for wearing casual clothes like jogger bottoms and pyjamas. Before turning to weight control and referring to one woman as a sumo wrestler.
Moreover, his marital advice then moves to make-up, fashion tips, hairstyles, and sexual intimacy.
Reactions from the audience
Most of his comments can be heard, getting muted response from those in the audience. The video, though, was posted by a woman online. She said she was angry as pastor Clark was allegedly preaching similar words last week.
Thousands of viewers then have commented on the video calling Mr Clark sexist and misogynist.
Affront on the sermon led General Baptist ministries, the denomination, to address the matter on Facebook.
The 55-year old pastor’s church told KCTV, a local CBS subsidiary, that Clark was now on holiday and on professional counselling.
