Vanessa Bryant criticised rapper Meek Mill over a song that references her late husband, the basketball star Kobe Bryant.
The song’s lyric said If I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper, it be another Kobe.
Addressing Meek Mill on Instagram, Vanessa addressed meek mills line was extraordinarily insensitive and disrespectful. Although I am not familiar with your music, I believe you can do better than this, she wrote on her Instagram story.
Further continuing that if you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.
Singer Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, seemed to respond on his Twitter. He added, “I don’t think we’re on the same signal you all… I don’t see what you all see.” However, he subsequently clarified that the tweets were not meant for Bryant and his family.
He later wrote, “I apologised to her in private earlier today, not to the public, and nothing I say on my page is directed to any internet viral moment or, in this case, the family of a grieving woman! And if you care about someone grieving, change the subject!
The rapper initially suggested his lyrics were being misinterpreted.
“Somebody promo a narrative, and you all follow it you all internet antics cannot stop me,” he wrote. “They are paying to influence you all now its almost like mind control, so wake up”.
The rapper previously petitioned the National Basketball Association to change its logo to the Black Mamba’s silhouette to honour Bryant.
The sportsman, a five-time NBA champion, played for the LA Lakers throughout his career and is considered one of the greatest players in the game’s history.
