Justin Bieber has revealed his transformation from a wild child to a reformed character.
The 27-year-old artist spoke openly, revealing the scope of his drug problem and developing his relationships with Christianity and his wife, Hailey Baldwin.
“I have a partner who I feel comforted by, who I adore. I feel like my relationship with God is marvellous. I feel safe. And I have this overflowing of love that I want to be able to share with my fans, you know?” Justin told journalist Zach Baron.
The Canadian superstar created a reputation for bad behaviour and a severe drug habit in past years, to the point that security guards would come into his apartment at night and check his pulse to make sure he was not dead, Justin told GQ.
“It was like I had all this money and success, and it was still like: I’m still in pain, and I’m still sad. And I still have these unresolved problems. And I thought all the success was going to resolve everything. And so for me, the drugs were a medium to continue to get through the day,” he said.
Justin’s first song, “One Time,” went platinum in 2009 when he was just 15 years old. He became an internationally known star over the next few years before his actions became increasingly unpredictable, with a string of struggles with the law.
In November 2018, Justin stated that he had married Hailey Baldwin.
Then, in March, he announced he was taking time away from music to better his mental health.
His belief in God and faith is another reason why Justin seems to be in a good place these days.
God “is grace,” he stated. “Every time we go the wrong way, He’s picking us back up every time. That’s how I see it. And so it’s like, ‘I made a mistake. I won’t cling to it. I don’t dwell in shame. But it makes me want to do my best.”
