Hyundai has been stepping up their car game in nearly every space possible. From futuristic trends to extreme off-road, they have been constantly innovating.
Introducing the Hyundai TIGER X-1 Concept:
Hyundai made waves in 2019 with its CES showing off the Elevate concept—an “Ultimate Mobility Vehicle” that featured motorized wheels attached to five-jointed “legs” that enabled it to walk and climb, as well as drive. The Hyundai Tiger X-1 has four wheels, each powered by an electric motor. Each of those wheels is on the end of a long, bendable leg.
Now, when a simple 4×4 is stuck, it’s just stuck there. But, in the case of the Tiger X-1, well, the thing just expands its legs and walks over them.
Fascinating? -Sure.
Not only that but:
The vehicle can also drive in any direction — forwards, backward, or side to side — using either its wheels or legs.
The Tiger (which stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot with “X-1” indicating its experimental nature), could also connect to an unmanned aerial drone that can carry it to and from remote locations, Hyundai said. The Tiger and drone could also charge one another’s batteries as needed.
This concept vehicle is similar to the Hyundai Elevate, another walking concept vehicle that was unveiled as animation at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show. The Elevate concept art showed a larger vehicle designed to carry people, though.
