Mayor of New York City, Mr Bill de Blasio, has called governor Andrew Cuomo to resign over sexual misbehaviour.
Mr Cuomo, who is already being investigated as five women, blamed him for sexual misconduct. Additionally, he now is facing assertions from the sixth. Moreover, Mr Bill Blasio called the incident ‘absolutely unacceptable.’
The governor has refused all the allegations against him. Moreover, has said of the most recent calls that he has not done anything as such.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is a long time political rival of Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo. On Thursday, he told the reporters the specific allegations that the governor called an employee of his, someone he had power over. He called them to a private place and then sexually harassed her. It’s unacceptable, he added.
He also said that it sounds disgusting to him and that Mr Cuomo should noo longer serve as a governor.
In his state, Mr Cuomo, whose term in office ends in 2022, was praised last year for his approach to the COVID epidemic. However, this year he has been accused of obscuring the scale of COVID related deaths in the state’s nursing homes.
Since the allegation of harassment was made, a string of people has called for his resignation.
On Thursday, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said he had given the go-ahead of a complaint investigation. The investigation that will interview the witnesses and look at the evidence would be the first step towards citation.
What has Mr Cuomo been cited of?
More than 55 democratic legislators in New York have endorsed a report calling him to step down.
In a statement, Mr Cuomo called the new claims, reported by Albany’s Times Union on Wednesday, gut-wrenching.
He has previously said that he would wait for the results of an independent inquiry into the charges. Which is supervised by New York’s Attorney General Letitia James.
In February, Mr Cuomo was accused of harassment when Lindsey Boylan, a former top-level aide, wrote an essay that the governor touched her without her permission. Additionally, he frequently made comments on her appearance that were inappropriate.
Ms Boylan blamed Mr Cuomo for kissing her on her lips. Moreover, she added that he aspired to play strip poker with her on his private jet.
Another former aide, Charolette Bennett, told the New York times that she comprehends the governor’s desire to sleep with her.
