Latin America’s richest man has tested positive for coronavirus. The 80 years old, Carlos Slim was showing ‘light symptoms’ of and was doing ‘very well’, as stated in a tweet posted by his son.

Carlos Slim is a Mexican telecommunication billionaire. From the year 2010 to 2013, he was ranked as the richest person in the world by the Forbes business magazine. While as of February 2020, he is the fifth richest person in the world. In the listing of Fores’ The World’s billionaires, with an estimated amount of $68.9 billion.
The news came a day after the Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, at age 67, also caught the disease.

Mexico is among the world’s worst-hit nations globally, with more than 1.7 million confirmed cases of Covid-19. The data is the number since the pandemic began with 1,50,000 death tolls. In a tweet on Monday, the son of Mr Slim, Carlos Slim Domit wrote that ‘his father was making a very good progress with coronavirus after more than a week of minor symptoms.’

‘Mr Slim has been at Mexico’s National Institute of Nutrition for clinical analysis’, his son’s tweet added.
The business tycoon and his family, control Mexico’s largest telecom provider America Movil. The telecom has an estimated worth of around $52 billion (£38 billion).

Mexico’s COVID Update

Mexico is continually experiencing it’s worst moments since the pandemic hit the country last year. According to the reports, the hospitals are overflowing with coronavirus patients, and there is a little sign of slowing down.
In an announcement made by President López Obrador, the country has reached out to Russia for the supplies of vaccine. The estimated amount of vaccines is around 24 million Sputnik V vaccine in the next two months. However, in this short, the chances of many Mexican families stay bleak.
