US police officers are seen deriding a 73-year-old dementia as they watch a video.
In the video, her shoulder is going pop at the time of her forcible arrest, released by her lawyer.
Karen Garner was detained on the 26th of June last year as she walked out of Walmart without paying. It happened in the state of Colorado, and she was supposed to pay for items worth $13.
She dislocated her shoulder and fractured elbows, as said by her attorney. An investigation has been launched into the Loveland Police Department arrest.
There’s a footage released on Monday from the booking area of the police station of two officers on the day of arrest. They both are seen fist-bumping one another as they review body camera video of the incident.
Video from Ms. Garner’s nearby cell shows the frail-looking grandmother slumped handcuffed to a bench. While the officers are joking about the incident, said her lawyer.
Ready for the pop? Hear the pop? one of the officers says at a point, referring to Ms. Garner’s shoulder.
Moreover, as they continue to watch the video, the same officer says that he loves it.
The Garner family, to enhance the audio of the officers’ remarks, hired a sound engineer.
Their lawyer had filed a federal lawsuit against the department by alleging the officers. She is saying that the officers violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and violently assaulted Ms. Garner.
Sarah Schielke, the attorney, says her client went six hours without medical help. Also, that Ms. Garner’s arrest led to her crying and staying confused, which seems like a torture to her.
Statement from Loveland Police
In a statement, the Loveland police said that they would not be making any comments. As the results of a criminal investigation launched last week still await. Loveland police chief Robert Ticer has pledged full transparency with the inquiry.
Also, Fort Collins police will lead the investigation of the event. Additionally, one of the officers has been placed on administrative leave, while the remaining two in administrative duties.
The bodycam footage caused a public outcry earlier this month when it was released. The release of the footage arrives amid the nationwide reckoning over police brutality. Especially against African-Americans, though Mss Garner is white.
