Apple has been continuously looking for cutting edge AR (Augmented Reality) technology for its camera. And also for several new products that it wants to introduce in the market.
And as per reports, Apple may uncover its AR Glasses sometime this year.
Apple AR glasses are likely to be similar to Facebook’s AR Glasses announced through Project Aria. That is also speculated to launch this year.
According to a report at Techradar.com, Apple is getting into the second phase of its augmented reality glasses prototype.
The previous year, rumors started that Apple worked on AR-only glasses and an AR/VR headset.
It is widely speculated that Apple’s glasses will project information such as maps and text messages in front of the wearer’s eyes. The glasses will also be operated through Siri.
Apple has a plus point in the AR Glasses race.
In any case, Apple is working on sourcing AR components and AR technology for its camera and few other devices.
For example, Apple took over the Israeli start-up LinX in May 2015 for $25 million. Also, incorporating the latter’s 3D camera technology. LinX, established in 2011, has the technology of adding more depth to pictures by dividing the digital image into three stages.
And Apple already has a partnership with LG Innotek to ensure a continuous supply of TOF modules.
(Time of Flight) TOF module is a range imaging camera system that employs time-of-flight techniques to resolve the distance between the camera and the subject for each point of the image by measuring the round trip time of an artificial light signal provided by a laser LED.
When AR is seen through a TOF module, the operator can see a real image combined with a virtual image more realistically. This technology helps a device to recognize 3D shapes more accurately.
