Freaky has disappointingly made its name as the lowest of chart-topping grosses of all time. Especially when the fact that these numbers have come in at a time when Thanksgiving is just one weekend away. A weekend like this has been known to be the most lucrative for movies and songs. Generally, any movie would have been blamed for such performance, but not in the case of Freaky.
By the time the weekend arrived, more than 640 movie theatres in the USA had shut down again within the span of one night. This was done to curb the spread of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In Canada, 60 cinemas had been shut down. This means that the box office of North American films had to lose 706 locations as compared to the numbers one week ago.
The final tally of the domestic revenue generated by the cinemas for the weekend will be given on Monday. However, an estimated revenue ranges in between $4 million and $5 million. These figures are sure to be lesser than the revenue generated in the previous month. Additionally, it will also be the lowest since August when the recovery of the movie industry began with the physical reopening of the box office. The first movies to be released were Unhinged and Tenet.
The cinemas in Los Angeles along with those in the New York City were not permitted to reopen. This posed a major obstacle in the recovery of the Hollywood industry.
