Wolverhampton Wanderers made a brilliant comeback against Frank Lampard’s young Chelsea squad. After an exciting first half, both teams took a break at the score of 0-0. However, Kurt Zouma and his other compatriot Oliver Giroud had pretty good chances in the first half to put Chelsea ahead. As a result, during the 49th minute, Oliver Giroud scored a fantastic volley, which was awarded as a goal by Goal Line Technology.
After 60 minutes, Wolverhampton’s Portuguese coach, Nuno Santo, brought Adama Traore in the field. The speedy, Spanish winger took a knock after Giroud’s tackle but performed very well after that.
During the 66th minute, the young and very promising winger of Wolves side, Daniel Podence, fired an individual effort, which resulted in the score 1-1.
After the first goal, Nuno Santo’s team didn’t look back and stretched the game as wide as possible. In the 81st minute, Pedro Neto falls inside the penalty area after a challenge from Chelsea’s right back, Reece James. However, the decision was overruled by VAR after a check.
But, Pedro Neto didn’t stop there as he continuously tried to breach Chelsea’s solid defense. As a result, he delivered a superb finish into the bottom corner during the additional time at 90+5.
The match ended with a 2-1, and it was Chelsea’s second defeat in a row. On the other side, the Wolves enjoyed the 3 points and moved to 10th place in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard’s thoughts
After a defeat at Goodison Park, Lampard’s Blues were keen to get three points at Molineux Stadium, which ended in disappointment as well. After the game, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard clearly showed his dissatisfaction with Chelsea players. Moreover, he explained how his squad is still not ready to win the premier league trophy.
Hopefully, we’ll see more from Chelsea’s new signings like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the upcoming weeks. The young winger Callum Hudson Odoi and Chelsea’s magician Hakim Ziyech will start training with the rest of the squad by the end of this week.
