Wonder Woman 1984 performed better at the box office than assumed by anyone in the industry. As per Variety, Wonder Woman 1984 (WW84) managed to collect a whopping $16.7 million within the United States in the first 3 days of its main release.
In general circumstances, such figures in the opening weekend are nothing more than a failure of the film. Also, these numbers are very less than the ones earned by the original film (Wonder Woman) which garnered more than $100 million in its first weekend of release in 2017. However, looking at the current global scenario when the world is amid a global pandemic with health problems rising, these numbers earned by WW84 are actually impressive. As of now, only 35 percent of the original capacity of the theaters in the United States is actually operational. All of these theaters are following the COVID-19 norms laid by the organizations and government to operate at reduced capacity. Most of the box office amount has been collected from private watch parties. Generally, these small parties are considered as the safest way of watching films, especially at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wonder Woman 1984 also performed better than other films that have tried to make their spot in theatres during the pandemic. This film performed better than Tenet by Christopher Nolan that made $9.5 million in September.
