President Donald Trump announced the signing of the pandemic package on Sunday night. This massive bill comprises $1.4 trillion that will be used for funding the government agencies till September 2021. The bill also includes priorities that are mostly needed by the end of the session like required money for transit systems that are hungry for cash and money for increasing the benefits of the food stamps.
Democrats on the other hand are promising better benefits and aids when their President-elect candidate Joe Biden takes office. However, the Republicans are only taking a wait-and-see approach for these promises.
This news of the bill comes in at the time on Sunday when millions of people lost their unemployment aid. During this time, there were pressures by different states on the President for declaring a mid-pandemic shutdown and the lawmakers were seriously imploring Trump to act on the situation of the country.
By making this move, President Trump overturned the negotiations that took place for months and blindsided the members of the ruling and opposition parties. This package was already passed in the House and the Senate with Trump’s support and the majority in large numbers. However, Trump revised this package to include scaled-back spending and larger relief checks.
On early Sunday evening, Trump tweeted vague messages by saying that good news is about to be told regarding the Covid Relief. In the same tweet, he mentioned that more information on this topic will soon be provided. When asked about this tweet, the White House did not respond with an explanation.
