A gunman, including a police officer, has killed ten people. The incident took place after an hour-long standoff at a grocery market in the state of Colorado.
The attack in Boulder dropped with police arresting an injured shirtless suspect at the King Soopers market. The firing was streamed live by witnesses and aired on YouTube.
The conflict began around 14:30 local time and 20:30 GMT on Monday. The suspect entered the market and started firing.
About 20 minutes later, the Boulder police department tweeted that at King Sooper market, there was an active gunman on Table Mesa street.
The department again warned people to avoid the area in a further tweet about two hours later. Adding not to broadcast on social media any information that is tactical one might see.
However, some of the standoffs were caught on camera by a passer-by showing victims near the supermarket store.
The cameraman said that he didn’t know what was going on. He heard some gunshots, and someone was down.
The gunshots could be heard as he runs away from around the shop.
The video continues, with police coming on the fuss and circling the supermarket.
People said they had to dive for cover or run towards safety as the shooter began firing.
Police Chief’s statement
Speaking at the press conference, the police chief of Boulder, Maris Herold, confirmed that they had the suspect in custody. She added that she wants society to know that they’re safe.
Ms Herold named the officer killed as a 51-year old Eric Talley. Late Mr Eric was in the Boulder police department since 2010.
However, Ms Herld didn’t provide any further details about the shooting. But she added that the investigation was very complex and would take no less than five days to make.
Additionally, the names of other victims would not be revealed until the relatives have been informed.
On Twitter, Colorado governor Jared Polis said that his prayers are with fellow Coloradans. In this time of sadness and grief as we learn more about the extent of the tragedy.
