A girl reported being 11 or 12 shot and injured two others students and a member of staff at school.

The event took place in the US state of Idaho, in Rigby city. The unnamed pupil, who is in sixth grade, was in Rigby Middle School. She brought the gun to her school and opened fire.

The event had three victims that the police is saying are likely to survive.

Authorities said a female teacher managed to subdue her and restrained her until the police took her into custody.

Though, the motive of the shooting is not yet clear.

Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said the girl was from the nearby city of Idaho Falls. Adding, she retrieved a handgun from her backpack and fired multiple rounds inside and out of the school.

The episode is investigated by the FBI and the local law enforcement.

Pupil Yandel Rodriguez, 12, told the associate press that they heard a loud noise. Afterwards, it was followed by two more loud noises as such.

She then added, they all heard screaming, and when her teacher went to find out, she saw blood.

Further information on the incident

Dr Michael Lemon is a trauma medical director for Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He told the news conference that the students who were shot were still in the hospital. Adding that one of them might require surgery. Also, that one had been wounded in two limbs.

However, the staff member was treated for the bullet wounds and then sent home.

He further said that with the assistance of other schools, they had run a mock shooting mass casualty situation. Hence, their trauma system was prepared for this when it came on.

The fact that the injuries are as insignificant as they are right now. Adding that he isn’t saying that they’re not bad, but they could have been worse. He finally added, they feel blessed.

The local school superintendent, Chad Martin, said schools across the district would be closed on Friday. Adding the counsellors will be available.

President Biden recently announced his first steps since taking office to tighten gun controls. The decision making was after following a mass shooting in the States.

It includes efforts to set rules for bolster background checks, certain guns and support local violence programme.

Last month President Joe Biden described the incidents as an international embarrassment.
