Dinkins passed away on Monday as confirmed by the Police Department of New York City. The department said that the offers were told to reach the home of the former mayor on Monday evening. Prima facie, the officers observed that the mayor passed away from natural causes.
Just some weeks after the death of his beloved wife Joyce, the news of Dinkins’ death surfaced on the internet. She passed away in October 2020 with just one year short of completing 90 years of age.
People who knew Dinkins closely would speak highly of him. He was a calm person with a strong liking for formal clothes and tennis, unlike the mayors who held the office before and after him – Ed Koch and Rudolph Giuliani. These mayors are known all over the world as impatient and rude leaders who hold prestigious positions in New York City.
While addressing New Yorkers on his Inauguration Day, Dinkins showed his love for New York City by calling it a “gorgeous mosaic of race and religious faith.” In his speech, he went on to say that the city is home to thousands of people of diverse national origin and different sexual orientations. The city also provides food and space to families who arrive just a day before, as it does to the ones who came there generations ago.
However, during his term as a mayor, the number of unemployed people in the country increased. This ultimately brought hundreds of people out on the street because of homelessness. Thousands of people in the city died because of crack cocaine, guns, and AIDS. Also at that time, New York City was under a budget deficit of $1.5 billion. These situations made people call Dinkins slow and soft.
