With the much-delayed launch of this vast open-world game,
Players and Critics alike expect great things. CD Projekt did Provide, but not so much for Console Players. Even after the delayed launch, the Console version of the game was very buggy. The PC players report that the game requires top-notch specs to be even playable.
With the much anticipating and teasing screenshots of the game being shared and leaking, it was a mystery how the final version will look. After its release, it’s been quite a rough time for Cyberpunk. CD Projekt — popularly known for 2015’s epic Title The Witcher 3 which later turned into a Netflix series — has offered refunds to any disappointed players. While Sony is going a step further by entirely removing the game from their store.
Cyberpunk also features Hollywood star Keanu Reeves as an in-game character and has used the actor as its most visible ambassador in the buildup to its release.
Profit or Loss?
According to databases, though, CD Projekt has apparently lost over 40% of its shares since December 4.
The developers say they are working hard to bring the game back to the PlayStation store. They are also having discussions with Sony regarding a full refund for all gamers seeking one.
It is rare for any title to be removed from stores so soon after release. Especially such an anticipated one. Previous examples include Final Fantasy XIV, which got removed following its disastrous 2010 launch, and Crucible, removed from PC stores earlier this year and subsequently canceled.
Cyberpunk developers state that the pressure scales up to death threats, as Senior Game Designer Andrzej Zawadzki tweeted in October. Working six days a week became the norm in the final months leading up to the eventual release.
But even after such hard work, was the end result still a success?
Well, yes and no.
Shattering all the records, Cyberpunk earned its development costs in just a day.
Cyberpunk currently also holds the title of most-viewed on Twitch.
As per the critics, the game is doing well. Renowned review websites such as MetaCritic give it a solid 87.
Fans also are approving of the game, although some may say otherwise.
Overall, it’s getting mixed reviews.
